You Can Be A Wesley rocked a packed house at Great Scott last Thursday. Read DigBoston’s Shutterstory for the full report on the extra-hyper energy and nostalgia of a show that came with the announcement of an uncertain future for Boston’s lo-fi indie foursome.
DEAR READER: Why You Should Care About WFNX Going Off The Air (via DigBoston)
My paper, DigBoston, and the Boston Phoenix have been rival alt-weeklies since 1999—the year the Dig started printing. At times, this competition between the two papers (for exclusives, for advertising, for events, for what the fuck ever) has gotten downright nasty. Now, as WFNX, the Phoenix Media Group’s radio station, is getting bought out by a corporate conglomerate and their staff is getting laid off as I type this, some things just become more important.
I’m grateful to work for an awesome company that supports my writing, and I’m grateful to live in Boston and be a part of a fantastic, supportive community. That’s all.
Watch the trailer for Beasts of the Southern Wild. You will not be sorry.
